Jackson is one month old

Here are some of the latest Jackson pictures including photos of his first thanksgiving where he met his cousin Jacob! He's now one month old. It's hard to believe. Jackson has been busy working some things out--his digestion, how to control his arm and leg movements, his ability to go for more than 2 hours at a time without eating...
He's been going on daily lion hunts and though he almost got eaten by a flock of Canadian geese, he loves them. He's been meeting some of our favorite people. And, he's been particularly wide-eyed and alert lately. Sometimes we're sure he's going to sit up and talk to us. Soon enough...

Jackson the Hassid

For those of you who have paid a visit, you know. But for those of you who haven't, we live in a corner of Brooklyn where English is the not the first language. It may not even be the second most spoken language. Spanish? No. French? Well, French might be fourth. German?? Guess again.
Yiddish. Then Hebrew.
Yes, indeed.
In our parts, black is always in style. It never lagged.
Fur hats are huge. Fringe is real popular as well. Facial hair? Great. Bonnets? Sure thing. Kids? Keep 'em coming. Skirts? The longer the better. The Hassids. We live among them.
And Jackson has learned to dance like the best of them. Think Fiddler on the Roof.

But don't get us wrong, religious/cultural prediliction aside, he's still the cutest little guy around.

Jackson the socialite

Jackson is already a local celebrity, a man around town. He's quite a charmer, particularly with the ladies. And he's had a parade of fawning admirers. Here are some of his favorite people.

This is Omlette. Jackson is a limp little noodle in her arms.

This fella is known as Grumpa (sic). But he's been anything but grumpy around Jackson, so we think he's going to need a new name.

We call her Sammy. She lives too far away for anyone's good. But boy did Jackson make her smile.

This is Jackson's grandpa. He wasted no time in asking the little man some probing questions. The little man responded by promptly falling asleep.

This is Jessie (who won't let us call her aunt). Her boy is a smidge bigger than ours, which makes her fawn over Jackson all the more.

Yesterday, Jackson met his great grandma, an unbelievable thing, when you think about it. Dell seemed like a young mother again with Jackson in her arms.

Technically, Beth isn't part of Jackson's family. But she's about as close as can be, as she was Jackson's doula--which means that she helped bring Jackson into the world. We think the world of her, and we think Jackson does, too.

And that's it for today. We just got back from the doctor, and Jackson weighed in at 10lbs 10oz!!! So, in 3 weeks (he's 3 weeks today), he's gained 2 lbs 3oz. That's a credit to him and to Sarah, who apparently has half-and-half flowing through her breasts.

Jackson's first blog

Hello readers of Jackson's blog,
It's Sunday, November 19th, Jackson is 20 days old. That's a pretty short amount of time. But already, it's hard for us to imagine or remember life without him. He's got quite a face.

The boy definitely knows how to sleep (except in the hours between 3:30am and 7am).

But he's often wide-eyed and very alert.

He's been a bit fussier than normal (if "normal" can be established in 19 days of life). We weren't sure what was wrong. First, we thought maybe he was just hungry.

Then we thought maybe he was just holding his breath too long.

Then we thought he just had to spit up a little.

But his latest squeels and cries have been pretty clear. Jackson just wanted a blog. And once we realized that, Jackson's just been chomping at the bit to get online.
